england. it hit mississippi yesterday. a lot of schools are cancelled. airports are doing okay. old ripple effect across the country. so farther not doing too bad and the next couple of hours that snow will be gone. in the west barely a cloud in sight. just very cold. huge area of high pressure. it's like a big dome. doesn't allow any weather systems to come near you. at night with calm winds it gets very chilly. some clouds spilling into wyoming and montana. high pressure of idaho will keep all the stormy weather away for a long time. maybe for the foreseeable future. as far as temperatures go a little bit of wind chill in a few spots but for the most part just very chilly, temperatures like the last couple of days struggling this morning but with sunshine this afternoon it will feel a lot and the coast with fog end up in the 30s. just taking a look at the extended forecast for seattle. five days from now still looking sunny and nice. 40. >> some of that stuff in the east coming from the west which they were experiencing earlier in the week. straight ahead a last minute death row a

mississippi river. officials with the coast guard have not said how much of the oil spilled into the river. oily sheen was reported three miles down river from the accident. it happened early sunday morning. officials say two barges were damaged but they believe only one hit the bridge causing the leak. >>> 20 minutes after the hour now. this morning people are in the hospital after a rescue on the hudson river. crews went into icy water after the small plane crash there. take a look at new video in overnight. a single engine plane left the trenton rob insville airport in new jersey on a sightseeing trip. a man and a woman were on the plane when it went down yesterday afternoon. investigators say they were about to get out of the plane and put life vests on before sank. >> we could hear them calling for help. we a visual on them. we were trying to head them off. they were going southbound at a pretty good clip. >> the two victims were taken to the hospital suffering from hypothermia. the cause of that crash remains under investigation. >>> 4:21 now. time for weather and traffic on the 1s.

mississippi, those kids were happy, they got the snow, a couple inches here and there. i think a lot of kids end up disappointed in areas of virginia and north carolina. probably not enough for any sledding this morning. here are the mississippi pictures. and did cause a lot of problems out there. we had unfortunately one or two fatalities because of some car accidents. let me show you the radar and what happened as we went throughout the day. the blue and the white is where the snow was. a brief period of snow from raleigh to richmond. d.c. got robbed. this morning, we did have a little bit of snow, especially right around cape cod. just clipping areas. if you're out there, drive carefully. maybe a cub inches before the end of the day. now, the big next story is what's going to happen with the cold air that's going to arrive. the coldest of the stone. the white shows the arctic blast down through the northern plains through saturday. sunday it heads through the great lakes. by monday, tuesday, wednesday, it settles into the top of new england. it doesn't dive that far into the deep south bu

of southern mississippi and definitely the southern half of alabama but that's really about it. temperatures are more or less the story. the big question is, is this the coldest week of winter? who knows how it's going to play out but it's been really cold especially in the northern plains and a cold blast up in new england. but the weather pattern is going to change dramatically as we go into next week. right now, temperatures are in the teens, actually not that bad for what is minneapolis and chicago. boston at 8, northern new england very cold. this is tracking the arctic air. the blue is the cold air. another chunk heads to new england by next week, middle of next week, there's really no cold air in the lower 48s. amazing. that's a quick look at your national forecast. how, let's take a look outside your window. >> so, today, with the exception of being down there along the gulf coast, especially southern alabama, panhandle of florida, it looks like a dry day everywhere. could have snow showers in the cold air of the great lakes, but overall, you're at beautiful weather. >>
